Worship and Music
Worship is a time for celebration and contemplation as a community of Christian faith. Through music and prayer, through silence and the spoken Word, through sharing Holy Communion at the Table of Christ, we remember and celebrate that we belong to God and to each other as the Body of Christ. All are welcome to participate fully in the worshipping life of the congregation.
Music is integral to worship life at First Christian Church. Our staff works together each week to integrate music with the themes of the Sunday worship. While the pipe organ is our primary instrument of praise, we also include a variety of musical genres in worship, allowing for a diversity of musical expressions. Vocal and instrumental solos and ensembles add to the texture of our worship life.
Throughout the year, special seasons offer opportunities for varied worship experiences, when music, banners, sounds, and movement add to the rich tapestry of our life together. These services include:
- Baptismal services, when we witness and celebrate brothers and sisters in Christ as they are emerge from the baptismal waters of life.
- World Wide Communion Sunday, when we celebrate the unity in our diversity as we share at the Table of Christ.
- Pentecost Sunday, when we celebrate the coming of God’s Spirit.
- Holy Week and Easter Services, when we move from the darkness of Jesus’ death to the joyful light of the resurrected Christ.
- Christmas Eve Services, welcoming the babe born in Bethlehem.
- Youth Sunday, an energetic service led entirely by the youth of the congregation.
- All-Saints Day, when we remember, name, and celebrate the saints that have gone before us.
