Children and Youth

In addition to Church school on Sunday mornings, youth have other opportunities for fellowship, service and spiritual development.

Youth Groups
Chi Rho, for youth grades 6-8, meets Sundays at 5:00 pm. Special events are also planned outside the regular meeting time. CYF (Christian Youth Fellowship), for youth grades 9-12, meets Sundays at 6:00 pm. Special events are also planned outside the regular meeting time.

Summer Programs
During the summer months, we work ecumenically with other downtown congregations to offer something “extra” for the children. These programs give children the opportunity to invite friends to participate in something special, to make new friends with children from other congregations, and to get excited about the Good News of Jesus Christ!

Church Camp
During the months of June and July, children and youth from grades 2 to 12 can attend church camp. Church camp is unique from other camps in that its focus is on Christian nurture and growth. In addition to recreational and fun activities, there are creatively structured times for scripture, study, worship and service projects. (Go to www.indianadisciples.org)

Acolytes
Our acolytes take seriously their call to carry the light of Christ into and out of the sanctuary each Sunday morning. This ministry, which requires a small amount of training, welcomes youth in grades 6-8.

Mission Trips
Our high school youth travel away from home to serve people in need in other parts of the world. Recent trips include a trip to Mexico to assist with a congregation’s building project and a trip to Gulfport Mississippi to assist in Katrina’s aftermath.

Children’s Outreach Ministries
Children have “hands on” opportunities for ministry. Ministries in recent years have included using church school offerings to shop for Christmas gifts for a family, participating in the food drive, and delivering Christmas cards, gifts and carols to the homebound. Children are encouraged to bring a church school offering each week to support local and global outreach ministries, such as The Gathering Place and Heifer Project International.
