Disciples Women

Disciples WomenThe purpose of Disciples Women is to provide opportunities for spiritual growth, enrichment, education and creative ministries to enable women to develop a sense of personal responsibility for the whole mission of the church of Jesus Christ. As part of a network of women that reaches out beyond our community and around the world, Disciples Women at First Christian Church focus on outreach at the local and global level.

For 2006-07, Disciples Women have pledged to give 500 hand towels and $200 cash to Church World Service for the Gift of the Heart Health Kit Project. Health kits are distributed around the world to help meet immediate needs following disaster and conflict. Their efforts will help meet a regional goal of at least 3,000 health kits. Donations are accepted at any time. Click here to find out more about Disciples Women.

Special Events for 2006-07 include a “Woman-to-Woman Worldwide” presentation by Rev. Marie Fleming, who will share her experiences with Disciples mission work in Kenya. A surprise event will be held in spring ’07.

Twice a year, special events offer women the opportunity to connect with each other across generational lines. The annual Cookie and Craft Sale takes place in early December at First Christian Church. Church families donate holiday cookies, baked goods, and craft items. Craft booths offer a variety of high quality items available for purchase. All proceeds are donated to local social service agencies. Past events have included a Spa Day for Women, Disciples Mission Partners in Nepal, Women’s Prayer Breakfast, Laughter Club, and Women-to-Women around the world.

All women are invited to participate in Disciples Women. Three groups meet on a monthly basis for study, fellowship, and service.

Martha Group—Second Thursday - 11:30 am
This small group meets over a “bring your own sack lunch” for study and fellowship. Special projects include “hands on” involvement with the pre-school at the Monroe County United Ministries.

Rebekah Well Wishers—First Monday - 6:00 pm
