Adults

The Campbellite Class Class is known for tackling a variety of topics, are famous for their sense of humor and “inquiring minds,” and care for each other and the church. Study topics have included: books of the Bible, oratorios (such as Handel’s Messiah), theology (such as Baptism and the Lord’s Supper), and current events from various Christian perspectives (such as Responding to Terrorism). Occasionally, members are invited to lead class sessions.

The Emmaus-Interpreters Class participants find joy in tackling sometimes controversial social and theological issues, exploring faith with eyes and ears open to new ideas, and seeking new understanding from the scriptures. Past studies have included: book studies (If Grace is True by Phillip Gulley, Experiencing the Heart of Christianity by Marcus Borg), books of the Bible, and DVD lectures (The Religious Experience by Timothy Luke Johnson. Participants seek to build Christian community through supporting each other in good times and bad, gathering for “movies in the woods,” campfires, and their famous “pirate gift exchange” at Christmas.

The Kerygma Classis designed for those looking for truly “in-depth” Bible study. Relying heavily on study Bibles, commentaries and Bible dictionaries, and internet resources, participants ask challenging questions, seek insight and knowledge from each others’ perspectives, and discover new truths about life and faith. This study is designed for those who enjoy digging deep, taking time to explore the scripture verse-by-verse, and learning from each other. Studying the letters of Paul is their current passion. Participants may volunteer to lead discussion, or they may simply choose to glean knowledge from their classmates. p>

A Place Apart is famous for the smell of coffee and the sounds of laughter that come from the room. Participants in this class find joy in the invitation to “come as you are.” “Seekers” as well “seasoned” Christians feel free to share questions, insights, and personal stories as they open themselves to experiencing God’s transforming power in their lives. Past topics have included: Introduction to Christian Spirituality and Spiritual Disciplines, How to Read and Study the Bible, Unplugging the Christmas Machine, and other studies designed to help participants experience more fully the church seasons of Advent and Lent.
