What do we believe?

As Disciples of Christ, we affirm:

  • Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God, and offers saving grace to all
  • All persons are God’s children

Our Beliefs and practices:

  • Open Communion – The Lord’s Supper, or Communion, is celebrated in weekly worship. It is open to all.
  • Freedom of belief – We are called together around one essential of faith: belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Persons are free to follow their consciences, guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study and prayer, and are expected to extend that freedom to others.
  • Importance of Scripture – We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God and is best heard and understood within the community of faith with the diverse insight that context provides.
  • Baptism by immersion – In baptism the old self-centered life is set aside and a new life of trust in God begins. Although we practice baptism by immersion, other baptism traditions are honored.
  • Belief in the unity of the church – All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for common witness and service.
  • The ministry of believers – both ministers and lay persons lead in worship, service and spiritual growth.
  • Inclusion of the leadership of women – We believe that God provides spiritual gifts to all and do not restrict any office or role in the life of the church by gender.
  • An educated clergy – We set educational and professional standards for ministers--licensed and ordained--and hold our clergy to ethical accountability through denominational oversight.
